We are looking for Social and Behavior Change Coordinator from across Somalia and Puntland for the SAHAN Demand Creation for Health Services program funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The focus of this program is to increase community awareness of, and demand for, health services and promote appropriate maternal and child health behaviours. Social and Behaviour Change Coordinators will function as part of the larger team responsible for contextualization and piloting of user-centered interventions to address the maternal and child health design challenges of the programme. They will be responsible for rolling out and overseeing the performance of these innovative interventions through the testing and pilot phases of the SAHAN program.

PSI seeks dynamic and pragmatic candidates with experience in health or social and behaviour change programmes, consumer level demand creation for health and working with communities in the Somali context.

  • Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to all BCC and demand creation interventions.

DATE: October2019

  • Responsible for orienting the Puntland MOH on new and ongoing demand creation interventions while ensuring there is coordination synergy between the regional team, the health communication officers and the MOH.
  • Responsible for guiding and mentoring field communications officers on the mechanics and implementation plans of demand creation interventions across Puntland
  • Responsible for orienting the regional health team on new and ongoing demand creation interventions while ensuring there is coordination synergy between the regional team and the MOH.
  • Support the mentorship of partners in the roll out of new interventions including acting as a quality assurance mechanism for PSI and the partners’ piloting activities.
  • Support the Marketing and communications manager in ensuring the MOH is engaged to ensure buy in of program activities, adaptation and approval for communication materials.
  • Support the testing and contextualization of the User Centered Interventions to solve key health and behavior change issues across Puntland
  • Support the development of Information, Education, and Communication materials relevant to PSI’s key audiences in line with the various project objectives.
  • Support the field team with preparing and facilitating orientation and feedback workshops with a diverse set of Somali users, regional and state MOHs and stakeholders.
  • Support regional communications officers with ensuring their requests, approvals and financial transactions are expedited with out delays.
  • Work closely with Social Behaviour change, Communications officers and Health Services teams to ensure intervention systems benefit from the synergy of seamlessly functioning simultaneously.
  • Performance would be based on behavior change impact within regions of responsibility in terms of demonstrated behaviour and increased health service utilization.
  • Support the field team with preparing and facilitating orientation and feedback workshops with a diverse set of Somali users, regional and state MOHs and stakeholders.
  • Review Health Communications Officers’ reports, provide feedback and write

Monthly and Quarterly programmatic reports for marketing and communication manager.

  • Necessary
    • University degree in health sciences, social sciences, or related field.
    • Maters degree will be an added advantage.
    • Fluent in Somali and English.
    • Experience in leading and coordinating team activities .
    • Highly creative and open-minded to learning new approaches
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work on sensitive maternal health topics and with vulnerable populations.
  • Willingness to travel within Somalia as required in the course of duty.
