DRC has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Somalia operations focuses mainly on people who are affected by displacement, including refugees, internally displaced, and migrant.
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC which implements mine action and armed violence reduction (AVR) programmes. DDG’s mandate is ‘to create a safe environment free from armed violence and the remnants of conflict’, and DDG does this via a programmatic focus on four key sectors: Security Systems Reform, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) management, Mine Action and Conflict Management.
Overall Purpose of the role:
The purpose of this position (SGBV Psychosocial Support Worker) will provide and lead Psychosocial support sessions to SGBV survivors and other groups with high risk of vulnerabilities such as women and children. Focused especially women, adolescent and children. Provide especial support and attention to people with mental health problems and People with special needs in lined with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings
- Ensure that during Psychosocial support activities proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs of the survivors or beneficiaries.
- Monitor beneficiaries’ progress during psychosocial support activities and identify persons with unusual changes in behavior or other signs of psychosocial distress and referral to a Social Workers for further assistance.
- Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality and accountability during need/vulnerabilities assessments.
- Provide Psychosocial First Ad to SGBV survivors to prevent further Trauma impacts that may results mental health.
- Conduct Psychosocial Support awareness sessions and other participatory sessions with beneficiaries to understand the available services and focal points. This will lead the SGBV and other beneficiaries to self-refer reach out the services.
- Ensure and establish a safe, friendly and non-discriminatory environment/room is upheld during all psychosocial support and counselling sessions to beneficiaries and survivors.
- Closely work with Social Workers for better referrals and coordination of SGBV survivors with respect of survivors wishes and rights.
- Conduct capacity development training/Psychosocial Support sessions and provide support to the field staff such SGBV/GBV/CP/Social Workers.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by Supervisor.
Education, experience & technical competencies
- University degree or diploma, preferably in Social Work, Social Sciences, Human Rights, or related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Experience, preferably a minimum of 3 years, as a, Case worker or social worker or case management focal point
- Experience working with International NGO’s, UN agencies and/or local authorities in complex emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and with good sense of humor.
- Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as commitment to supporting SGBV/GBV survivors especially women and children survivors as they are majority of GBV survivors.
- Experience in community mobilizations and networking. Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities, local leaders and local community;
- Good cooperation skills, ability to work well independently and in a team work.
- Good problem solving and social skills and creative, to think of alternative solutions;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skills.
- Computer literate (Word, Excel and other Office Support).
- Fluency in English and Somali.
- Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
