Job Title: General Nurse (1Position)

Location:Hudur

Job Summary:

The nurse will have close communication with the line manager and the beneficiaries dealing with the day to day health related activities with the help of the public health nurses and community health workers. Will daily, weekly and monthly participate in the reporting processes using the standard template of the hiring organization and the donor. In addition to that, this position will primarily cover the facilitybased needs and as well as the outreach programs if need be with the help and guidance of his/her supervisor.

Report to: Doctor in Charge

Key Area of responsibility:

  • Provides comprehensive primary health care services to beneficiaries in SOS health centres.
  • Diagnosis, treats and counsels patients and/or caregivers who visit the static and mobile health facilities.
  • Participates activities to promoting a good healthy and hygienic environment in the catchment area to prevent the potential health hazards in the community.
  • Takes part the day to day facility and community based health and hygiene education sessions to enable the community members understanding the importance of preventive health, home care, and clinical programs including.
  • Plan, organize and/or participate the outreach mobile clinics in serving the hard to reach communities in the IDP camps and host communities.
  • Cares patients particularly children and women with respect in times they may need the “triage,, methodology ensuring that none patients suffers or/and dies while waiting for service provision.
  • To make sure that all patients avail from a protection main streaming
  • Any other duties that s/he is assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.

Qualification & Experience

  • Candidates should have a Diploma in Nursing coupled with approved public health trainings.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.
  • Previous experience in NGOs/Donor funded programs, is preferable.
  • Strong knowledge on child rights and child protection.

Competencies – knowledge, skills and abilities 

  • Good knowledge of standards and current directions of development in the field of child’s rights approach, and social welfare systems
  • Good knowledge of legal issues relating to social welfare
  • Good knowledge of Human Resources Development
  • Organisational skills – skills of planning and organising resources necessary for achievement of goals
  • Ability to prepare budget and financial management skills
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)

.Job Title: Midwifes (3 Position)

Location: Afgoye Corridor

Job Summary:

Midwives are expected to provide advice, care and support for women and their partners and families before, during and after childbirth. They help women make their own decisions about the care and services they access. They care for new-born children, providing health education and parenting support. Midwives are personally responsible for the health of both mother and child and only refer to obstetricians if there are medical complications. They work in multidisciplinary teams in both hospital and, increasingly, community healthcare settings.

Direct Supervisor:  Doctor in Charge

Key Area of responsibility:

  • Providing full antenatal and postnatal care, including screening tests in the clinic, community;
  • identifying high risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and other medical specialists;
  • conduct health education awareness to the pregnant and lactating mothers visiting the Medical Centre
  • Arranging and providing parenting and health education for the woman, her partner and family members;
  • Encouraging participation of family members in the birth to support the mother and enhance both mother/baby bonding and family relationships;
  • Providing counselling and advice before and after screening;
  • Offering support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
  • Supervising and assisting mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of the foetus and using knowledge of drugs and pain management;
  • Giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including exclusive and complementary breast feeding, bathing and making up feeds;
  • Providing advice and guidance on a safe and timely transfer home; liaising with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care;
  • Engaging in professional development to meet PREP (post-registration education and practice) requirements;

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Midwifery
  • Two years’ experience in busy maternity Hospital or MCH.
  • Good counselling and communication skills
  • Observing client confidentiality and privacy
  • Good experience in BEMONC & Familiarity with CEMONC services

Job Title: Nutrition Nurse (1 Position)

Location: Hudur

Job Summary:

The employee is expected to provide a high standard of promoting optimum health and preventive health care, thereby contributing to a safe, efficient and effective service to patients. The employee will also provide assistance to the doctors and the other medical care team where appropriate, recognising that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.

Direct Supervisor:  Nutrition Supervisor

Key Area of responsibility:

Promotes the Health of patients

  • Conducts courses and seminars designed to teach patients and staff about nutrition, hygiene, HIV / AIDS, family planning etc.
  • Provides medical care and advice to patients/ beneficiaries and other staff as required. Refers more serious cases to the appropriate medical facility or to a visiting medical practitioner.
  • Carry out admission and treatment to nutrition beneficiaries according to IMAM Guidline.
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Monitor, record and report to the doctor in charge any symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions
  1. Provides Community Health Care and Education
  • Provides mothers and children from the surrounding community with preventative and curative health care services.
  • Undertakes visits to the local community, as required, in order to assist community members with health-related matters.
  • Instruct individuals, families and other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and childbirth, and develop health improvement programs
  1. Maintains Expert Knowledge on Health Care Issues
  • Keeps up-to-date with health care issues, particularly those issues affecting mothers and children such as family planning, HIV / AIDS, nutrition and hygiene.
  • Keeps a stock of informative materials regarding health-related issues, for general use.
  • To work with senior medical staff so as to develop their supervision, training and management skills
  1. Helps Ensure Efficient Management of the Clinic
  • Maintains an accurate record of all drugs / medicines disbursed.
  • Maintains individual files or cards regarding each patient assisted. Keeps accurate records of all treatments, immunisations, weighings etc.
  • Helps ensure all payments are properly collected and receipted.
  • Helps maintain the Medical centre in a clean and comfortable condition.

Job Summary:

As the Auxiliary Nurse you are expected to support health care team at SOS Medical centre/Outreach. Additionally, you will be registering children over 5 years within the program. The employee will work under the guidance of the nutrition supervisor. The employee will also provide assistance to the other medical care team where appropriate, recognising that the effective management of the program depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.

Direct Supervisor:  Nutrition Supervisor

Key Area of responsibility:

  • Does nutrition screening for all under 5 years children and give proper vaccine
  • Registers each child under 5 years that participated the service
  • Observe the height and weight of the children in medical centre/outreach
  • Registration of pregnant mothers and give them TT vaccine if appropriate
  • Managing antenatal care including Registration treatment and vaccination
  • Refer complicated pregnant mother to the Doctor
  • Controlling stock of vaccine bottlence
  • Controlling children cord and made appropriate referral to Medical center if discharges
  • Gives health education all mothers with under five children and pregnant mothers in MCH like exclusive breast feeding, Nutrition, good hygiene and importance of vaccine.
  • Daily and weekly statistics report of the MCH
  • To undertake any other duties assigned by his/her supervisor.

Qualification & Experience

  • Diploma or any equivalent and certified document in nursing
  • Literate in spoken and written English
  • Previous one year experience as a vaccinator
  • Clear style of giving instructions
  • Gently with children with honed technique to give immunizations

Job Title: Registrar (1 Position)

Location: Hudur

Job Summary:

As the Registrar for Nutrition the employee is expected to carry out preparation for nutrition activities carried out at SOS Medical Centre Hudur. Additionally, s/he will be registering children under 5 years within the program. The employee will work under the guidance of the Nutrition Supervisor.

Direct Supervisor:  Nutrition Supervisor

Key Area of responsibility:

  • Check anthropometric measures, MUAC, and oedema and cases to appropriate structure.
  • Record properly all screening results and write daily, weekly, monthly reports.
  • Explain purpose of admission
  • Fill out and maintain the SFP/OTP register
  • Identify absentees or defaulters and inform the outreach workers
  • Organize home visit for absents to avoid them to default from the program.
  • Check at home the environment and provide advices to the caretaker: hygiene, health education
  • Assist to a feeding time to observe the child and caretaker in their environment and provide advices.
  • Receive the patients admitted, together with those accompanying them, and give them information on how the centre functions.
  • Record in the screening book all beneficiaries screened, and refer them to the appropriate structure using a referral ticket.
  • Register the admitted beneficiaries in the SFP/OTP registration book and check that all the procedures have been followed.
  • Prepare the monthly report on weight gain, length of stay, recovery rate, death rate, defaulter rate etc.
  • Update all the discharges in the registry and the follow-up book ;
  • Give the patient or the person accompanying him the treatment card, a food ration, and an appointment for the follow-up
  • To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualification & Experience

  • Should have certified documents on health and nutrition.
  • At least with 2 years clerical experience in humanitarian organization.
  • Strong knowledge on child rights and child protection.
